How to do London in 3 Days.

People often ask me for travel tips often when going to a country I have been – and I LOVE it. I thought I would right a little tips post for some of the traditional spots people travel; first up – London.  Here is my suggestion for a three day trip to London, England.

Day 1 –  Hit a lot of sites.

Start the morning by getting the metro to the Westminster Abbey station.  This is where you will get your first glimpse at the incredible Big Ben! Tour the parliament if you want.

Westminster Abbey is the next block away from the Thames right beside the Big Ben. The beautiful famous Abbey is where Princess Diana & Prince Charles, and Duchess Kate & Prince William were married. It is a beautiful church.

Buckingham Palace is then a 10 minute walk from Westminster Abbey, so do it by foot and enjoy some of the city streets through London.  If you want to do lots of touristy things get the London Pass – it’s worth it. It included a tour of Buckingham Palace, which we did – although no photography is allowed in Buckingham.

Buckingham

On either side of Buckingham Palace are the Palace Gardens, Green Park and St. James Park so next take a stroll in a park. We did Green Park which has beautiful war monuments and dedications – they even have a fountain for Canada ♥.

After the park jump on the Metro and head to Kensington Palace and leave time to explore the beautiful Palace Grounds. Unlike Buckingham you are allowed to take photos and there are lots of fun dress up locations – so have some fun!

Enjoy dinner at a local pub, have a few pints and fish & chips!

Day 2 – More sites along the Thames River

Hop on the Metro (central line) and get off at St. Paul’s station – when you land you will be close to the beautiful massive St. Paul’s cathedral. Explore the beauty all the way around and inside!

The cross over the Millennium Bridge for a nice walk along the Thames River, and explore shops and stops along the way. Maybe take a river cruise, something I never did but it would be beautiful. You can still see St. Paul’s in the background.

As you continue down the Thames you pass many bridges, including the famous London Bridge, but then more impressively the beautiful Tower Bridge.  Be sure to go up and get a photo on the glass floor – it is worth the tourist trap. 🙂

After you enjoy the Tower Bridge, head over to the Tower of London – one of the most visited places in London.

Grab a cider on the boardwalk as you enjoy the view of Tower Bridge and the Thames River – then grab some local eats!

Day 3 – Enjoy the City

The last day in any city is to do the last minute places you wanted to hit and didn’t get to – Galleries, museums etc. Do that in the morning and explore the city for the afternoon.

Beatles Fan; of course you are! Do the classic Abbey Road picture. 🙂

Enjoy the city and tour around the beautiful Oxford & Regent Streets.  This is the shopping area along with many restaurants and bars.  Spend some time getting your souvenirs in this area.

Some people have other things to hit like the London Zoo, Notting Hill and more – if you have more on your list – get it done!

Remainder of time – Enjoy the beautiful city of London, and try to find some local spots!

For supper: grab some eats, grab a beer and have a relaxing picnic in one of the many city parks.

BONUS:  Calling Harry Potter Fans.

If you are a Harry Potter fan – MAKE THE TRIP TO WB STUDIOS. It is magical – pun intended.   It is about an hour trip from the city, but it is worth it! It had many props from the movies, and was truly a delightful stop for Nicola and I.
